Why Do People Scam Writers Out Of Their Money And Articles

    Bookmark and Share

I have recently had to deal with another article scammer. I think I attract the bad ones. They start paying you to hook you and then after a couple of months, decide not to pay for work completed and put up on the Internet. The problem started a couple of weeks ago. I had been writing articles for Thomas (Sticky Link) with payments on time. After the last two batches of articles, he decided not to answer my email, Digital Point communications or Yahoo IM posts. He made himself invisible, but responded to people who wanted him to do work.

I found the articles online and of course, I did a Whois search to find the email address. Well, guess what, it was not Thomas's website, it belong to a very nice person who was also having problems getting the work completed after paying the money upfront for the work to be done. We started communicating only to discover that neither one of us was getting any results. He was not getting the work done that he paid for and I was not being paid for work I did, even though Thomas (Sticky Link) had been paid.

On Feb 25th he paid me $30 which left a balance of $62. He said he would pay the rest and still never did. The conversation I had with him Mar 1st showed his true colors. He was not going to pay because the client who I have been in daily conversation with was not making any more payments because the work was never completed. He already received $500 for uncompleted work. All I wanted out of the $500 was the rest of my pay, which is $62. He must have spent it because he said he could not pay me until the website owner paid him again for work not completed.

Mar 1st, after our conversation, he filed three disputes with Paypal trying to take back the $30 he paid for a partial payment and two more payments for articles dating Jan 23rd and Feb 7th. These articles had nothing to do with the problem at hand. He is trying to take back money for articles I wrote and he posted on the Internet. He told Paypal he never received the articles.

    PayPal Message:
We recently received a claim from a buyer regarding merchandise that
Either was never received or did not match your original description. Please understand that until our investigation into this matter is complete, the funds associated with this transaction may be temporarily held. For more information, please review our User Agreement.

Now I had no choice but to relay our Yahoo IM conversation to the website owner that he was not paying for the articles and was trying to take money he paid me. The website owner is a gem, he told me what to do. I thank him for his help and information. I have sent the information to Paypal with the information I need and included that I could sent Thomas's own words stating he had the articles.

Here is a section of the conversation:

dailan (3/1/2008 5:46:50 PM): you should never post articles on the Internet unless they are paid for
Sticky (3/1/2008 5:47:04 PM): you sent them to me willingly
Sticky (3/1/2008 5:47:08 PM): do not blame me
Sticky (3/1/2008 5:47:13 PM): you gave them to me
    dailan (3/1/2008 5:47:16 PM): yes I do
dailan (3/1/2008 5:47:33 PM): you should have paid like you said you were going to
Sticky (3/1/2008 5:47:57 PM): you really are not very smart since you are ruining long term income over something so small
dailan (3/1/2008 5:48:20 PM): if I cannot get paid, how is that long term money
dailan (3/1/2008 5:48:23 PM): or work

As you can see, he admits he had the articles. He still went to Paypal and filed a dispute and two other disputes, which I have conversation that he received the articles and was making payment.

I like to work with people who pay on time and do not steal articles. I have been back to digital point forums because another client I work for who has become I good IM friend as well, told me about a posting he was considering. He was thinking about having this guy called Sticky Link do some work for him to get him into the high page ranks. After reviewing the forum, I was shocked to learn the website owner and I were not the only victims.

I assume the moral of this story is that no one can totally trust anyone. Even someone you think may be a good client can turn. I guess having all that money handed to you for work not done, make some people think that scamming is the way to make a living.

    Bookmark and Share

I had the pleasure to have a conversation with someone from another site, www.bustedscammers.com and after this conversation, I deleted Angela's comments both under her name and the other names she was posting under in my comments section. I plan to do a full article on her tactics and how she attempted to use my blog for her own sadists pleasure. She is not welcome on my blog and I will not allow her to post her ludicrous posts defending herself. I have now seen her for what everyone has stated about her.

I did not leave the comments up to let her libel busted scammers as I believe they have the facts straight. She does need to find some form of help for her disorder that can only become more harmful to others if she does not cease what she does.

As for all these sites defending her. Deal with the woman once and see if you really know what you are talking about.

  • Unprofessional- You Would Not Say That If It Was You Being Ripped Off

    Bookmark and Share

I read a comment down below about putting the watermark on a sample or article. You may think it is unprofessional, but then you brought up a good point, you can just write the article and post it anyway. Yes you could and when the author finds the article that was stolen, they can take action because they have the article in their files with a watermark saying the MONTH, YEAR and DO NOT COPY.

    Anonymous said---

This actually strikes me as a tad unprofessional. I DO buy articles and contents and if I asked someone for a sample and got sent something with "do not copy" across the front, I'd wonder why the sender was so blippin' worried about ME stealing their work.

It would just seem a bit hysterical to me, and, honestly, what's to stop someone from just re-typing the content and still publishing it as their own anyway? I just don't think the unprofessional message being sent is worth the pay-off.

It is people who think the way you do that cause authors to take every possible step to protect their articles. Do you know that ripping off articles from other people can cause you a great deal of trouble and problems. For one, if you use the article as your own on your website, I would contact the web-hosting site and report it. If it was a client of yours, I would contact them as I have already done, imagine your reputation when they hear what you did.

I have been doing this ever since and I know longer have fears of being ripped off, I think a professional person should respect an author for their professional approach to copyrighting their own articles until payment is released.

I still receive many jobs and I have never been turned down because I take the time to protect my work and myself. If you have articles you need written, please feel free to ask me for a sample of my work and I will supply it and you can be the first to turn me down.

Click Here To View More About LARAY CARR aka LCP Media, Laray Carr Publications

    Bookmark and Share

Here is another article about LCP. They have a website up now, but that is it, nothing more. It has no content. You will also want to read something about Quincy Carr which is interesting at this site as well. Check out Katherine's site by clicking the title and Deb Ng's writersrow.com for all the scoops about Laray Carr or LCP.

I also wonder what Hope Hunt, Roger Owen, Quincy Carr and Thelma Smith have in common. Also, what does David Person who signed the bottom of my application that Hope sent me, have to do with this Company as well. David Person's name and signiture is at the bottom of the application saying he is the Director of Publication Development.

Are there way to many names associated with this company? Especially after reading all the information, you will also wonder "Who is Laray Carr Publications or LCP Media? Who is Hope Hunt? Are Quincy Carr and Thelma Smith behind the entire thing?

How To Add The Watermark To The Sample

    Bookmark and Share

When using Microsoft Word it is actually easy to add your watermark too.

Step 1- Click on the format tab and find Background. You will then see "Printed Watermark"

Step 2- Click on "Printed Watermark" and another box opens up.

Step 3- Check the "Text Watermark"

Step 4- In the TEXT box, you can enter "Copyright September 2007 Do Not Copy"

Step 5- Then pick your font, size and color. A light color is more professional, therefore, I use the gray. The font size will depend on your article length. Here is where you just play around with the different fonts and sizes until you find the one that fits the page the best.

    Step 6- Then check "Diagonal"

Step 7- Click on "Apply" and the "OK".

You now have a text watermark on your article.

Up Your Price People, Stop Giving Away Your Articles

    Bookmark and Share

It seems that every time we turn around more people are finding ways to steal from us as writers. Have you noticed the low paying jobs being advertised? One dollar for 400 word articles, two dollars to rewrite 800 word articles, this is ridiculous. Are we going to keep this type of pay scale and just accept it? No, we need to make a living at what we do, or we will never be able to survive.

Eventually, the people who offer these ridiculous prices are going to get what they paid for, junk content with no relevant information. Writers, if you want to write for the Internet, you have to start marketing yourself as a professional. Professionals do no write for such asinine pay rates. If everyone refuses to write for those low pay rates, everyone will benefit. People wanting content both online and offline will have to pay for good content. Eventually, the Internet will be filed with false information, because if you pay such low prices, people are not going to do the correct research. High paying clients require offline research as well. This is done at a library or another research facility.

If people continue to write for a dollar an article or for cheap prices just to get the job, then when do you have time to live your life? You will be writing 24/7 just to make a living and that is not what working for yourself is all about. I will on occasion write for $1 a hundred words, but find these types of jobs as fill in work when I am slow. I will not ever undermine myself or my writings by working as a cheap writer.

Pay Me Money And You Can Make Money “SCAM”

    Bookmark and Share

You probably receive many of these emails in your email, see them on forums or see them everywhere on the Internet. Run, run, and run. These are not legitimate work at home jobs. Why would they want you to pay to receive the information to do the work? They do this because this is also how you will may the money as well. They scam you and you scam someone else. Is this a fair way to make money? No, if you want a legitimate job, you have to look for it, apply with or without a resume or sample of your work and then see if you receive the job.

Why do people continue to participate in these ridiculous schemes? Because nobody has the time to take to tell people when you participate in these scams, you are ripping people off just like you have been ripped off. Just because it happened to you, does not mean you should do it to others. Speak up and tell your story so others will not fall prey to this hideous scams. The newest scam I am really upset about seeing is the “HOME WORKERS NEEDED” “Earn $1000+ per month from home”. They even guarantee you will find someone gullible to receive your paycheck.

They need an online typist, Research typist, click typist, mail list compiler and a affiliate typist. Fun work and great money you would think to yourself. NO IT IS NOT. Once you get all excited, you see at the bottom of the page that you have to pay $165 to start and then another $25 dollars every three months. First off, you are giving somebody $165 of your own money and then in order to keep it up, every three months you are going to give this person another $25. Fantastic, now gets see how badly you got ripped off.

The person doing this just found five uniformed people to buy in at $165 a piece. There fore, this person just made back their investment plus $660. They are done now. They got their money back and can now just retire from the scam because it is to much work to find someone to swindle. However, for you, you are stuck with no work, no money and you are out $165.

Oh, did I forget to tell you, the online typist, Research typist, click typist, mail list compiler and a affiliate typist are just a pretty name for “scam someone to make money”. You get plenty of typing by going to reputable forums and classified places to scam people to participate. However, you are out of luck, we all not the scam and you got suckered and we will not participate in such a scam!

NEVER, NEVER PAY TO WORK FOR ANYONE.

My First Two Samples With COPYRIGHT Across The Front

    Bookmark and Share

Well, I have sent out my first two samples with my ‘Copyright September 2007 Do Not Copy’ plastered across it. I am more at ease because of using this way of showing potential clients a sample of my work. I can now start taking more action if my samples are stolen and not paid for.

I think that everyone should consider this as an every day occurrence. My motto from now on will be copyright, copyright, copyright.

If you do not have any clue how to make the watermark in the picture below, I will be happy to post the directions on here so that everyone can see how to do it.

Thanks for stopping and I hope this blog is a help to you in the future.

Here are a few rules to remember when sending your samples to potential clients.

Just as a reminder, these are your articles and before you send anything to a potential client, you need to protect what you have written by following these simple steps.

    1. Make a dated copy prior to sending your story to anyone
    2. Start the copyright process
    3. Add the copyright symbol and year when sending a copy to anyone
    4. Send a dated cover page stating that you are the author of the copy, (keep a copy of this as well)

I found this information in a potential writing gig from the person looking for an article writer. I felt compelled to share this information.

You Think I Would Learn My Lesson

    Bookmark and Share

Well it happened again. I wrote over thirty articles for someone I did some work for on RAC. He asked me to work offsite and save the high fee costs and I agreed. Well I did the articles and now he has very nicely forgot he has mail. After days of emailing him, I have now taken twenty of the articles and turned them into two batches of PLR articles that I sell on websitecontentplr.com. This will hopefuly allow me to make my money. I also posted a couple on AC.

I am a dedicated writer and am appalled at the nerve of these articles stealers. if I do not receive payment in a day or two, I will start posting all the articles somewhere immedialely so no one can use them as their own. I am so sick of being ripped off. It is no way to pay my bills. I work for a living by writing and these people just scam honest people out of money and product.

His name is Matt in the USA.

    I Received $10 From Ailen

    Bookmark and Share

Well just a little update. I see that Online Jobs now has a scam site, I wonder where they got that idea. I hope everyone keeps checking here as I am not going to hold back. Just so everyone knows, Ailen paid me $10 and then asked me to work for him now. NO WAY. I am still out $20 for what he actually owed me.

Now, if you look on the job site, he is advertising for work needed under askleno. I saw his ad and his name. I hope that people read this before giving or taking work from him. I do not want to see anyone else have the problems I did. As far as Denise, I still have heard nothing.

Hope to here more stories from you all out there. I am putting together some more articles for everyone to read.

This Was Sent To Me From Asha

    Bookmark and Share

    Hi,

I've been scammed by one dude who is European based by the name of Daniel.

Now as far as my research goes, Daniel is an active member of Government in Europe yet he can't spare some change to pay me for a project that I spent nights and days trying to complete for him.

The project required that I gave brief descriptions of house plans for an architecture website. I had only completed six of these profiles and he couldn't pay. Maybe that should have been a sign for me but at the time, I ignored it.

The day I was awaiting to be paid $160 for the entire project, he stopped answering my emails. Therefore, I contacted the moderator/ owner of the website that I found him at (Michael Matthew Enterprises) and Michael had the nerve to tell me that he was not responsible for paying me and that writing is not for me because I don't have the patience that it takes to wait to be paid.

I was floored to say the least. After writing to Michael, he forwarded the mail to Daniel and Daniel said that he would pay. This was close to two and a half months ago and I am still not paid. Therefore, readers beware of Daniel, he lurks on Michael Matthew Enterprises job board.
